annotated bibliography

Thought i had posted this already, but didn't load properly... here we go again!!

Recher, U. 2009, Light Architecture, Prime Imaging, Switzerland.

This book was given to us from the Sun Studios workshop on lighting techniques and ideas.
The book thoroughly outlines the lighting setup and exactly everything needed to complete the shoot. Each concept includes a diagram, what is exactly needed (lights, stands, reflectors), ratios, and a brief description of what the light is doing. The book is directed for commercially used photographs including fashion, and product placement.

Blackwell, L 2009, Photo-Wisdom, Master Photographers on Their Art, Midas Printing, AU.

This book is a selection of photographers and their most famous/favourite pieces of work. The book includes 50 photographers, graphic artists, from Chuck Close, David LaChapelle, Doubilet, Bonavia, Seliger, Sirota.
Per photographer, there is either a question/answer section, a self-written piece about their life and work, or a 3rd person piece about the work in the book. The book is mainly documentaries, portraits and some advertising material.

LaChapelle, D year unknown, LaChapelle Studio, Exhibit-E, viewed 10th March 2010, <. http://www.lachapellestudio.com/ .>

This photographer's work is wacky, outrageous and exotic. David's work pushes boundaries of what is ethical, and what is considered morally incorrect. A lot of his work includes nude famous people, specifically arranged in high drama sets and lighting. His work ranges from magazine covers, personal exhibitions, film direction and advertising, including many more areas of photography. David LaChapelle is worldly known as a celebrity photographer.

Carter, G 2008, Vanity Fair Portraits: A Century of Iconic Images, Hardie Grant Books, VIC AU

The Vanity Fair Portraits is a significant exhibition in the life of photography. It is where many artists find their way to reveal characters, personality, and the lives of significant, or not-so-significant people of modern people; whether taken in the 60's or more recent work of this decade.
This book has an incredible amount of powerful photographs, it is compelling and draws you in, to discover the person in the photograph. It is a good way to see different lighting techniques, not that it describes what light source is used, and how, it is good to discover how some photos are taken.

Parry, N date unknown, Nigel Parry Photographer, viewed 11th March 2010, <. http://www.nigelparryphoto.com/terminal.php . >

Nigel Parry is an American advertising photographer, this website includes portraits of famous individuals and groups, commercial and advertising, sports, business, magazine covers and more. Nigel is an incredible photographer who has also a fantastic book, Blunt. There are many creative ideas in his work, however it is easily conceivable that his work is for major clients after particular needs, not so much a creative freedom where some other advertising photographers thrive on.

  1. Good bibliography Aimee, keep researching. Some of the new magazines have great stuff too - Vanity Fair, of course, and Frankie are two of my favourites. Silvia
